A SHORT STACK OF WAMMIES, HOLD THE VERMONT
Carey received top honors (Wammie awards) for 2008 from the Washington Area Music Association in two categories: best Contemporary Folk Vocalist and best Contemporary Folk Album (for Peace of Wild Things).* No amount of maple syrup could make these any sweeter! And they balance the other two Wammies on Carey’s bookshelf harmoniously.
The D.C. metro area is overflowing with musical talent of all kinds; you can see the complete list of WAMA’s winners and nominees here: http://wamadc.com/wama/wammies/wambal23noms.html
* The Folk Album award tied with wonder-woman Lisa Taylor’s latest, True North.

THE WALLET SONG ON LATEST AZALEA SAMPLER
This image is clipped from a photo of Carey winding up The Wallet Song at the
Azalea City Recordings Sampler 3 CD release.
The song is her Andrews Sisters-style sendup about how we spend our money, whether it’s a little or a lot. It describes the journey of a little wallet searching for a perfect owner who won’t buy things made with plastic glop and who doesn’t keep world-damaging
investments in her 401-K.
You can hear it on Azalea’s new
Sampler 3 titled
Songs for a Changing World, now available at
CDBaby.com.

HEART EXPANSION ‘ROUND THE WORLD
Carey’s recorded music has been used in some exciting ways lately, such as:
- in a video being made about the Interfaith Federation of Greater Baton Rouge, a charity with folks from all three major Abrahamic faiths and many other religions working together to help local people--many of whom have suffered from the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina and Gustav.
- as a selection aired within a broadcast marking Yom HaShoah--Holocaust Day--on WorldWaves, a program dedicated to “Peace, through good music” on Radio Upper Galilee, Israel, near the Lebanese border. (Menachem Vinegrad, the host, is also co-organizer of Jacob’s Ladder Festival, an acoustic music lovefest in its 30th year).
- on Danny Watson's Folk Show in Australia, where the host pondered recently--through selected songs--the meaning of war, in conjunction with ANZAC Day (roughly the Australian and New Zealand equivalent to our Memorial Day).

IN GOOD COMPANY
Peace of Wild Things is listed as one of the top albums of 2008 by FolkDJ-L, an international folk DJ listserve. The CD received the same amount of airplay as recordings by Greg Brown, Peter Rowan, Patrick Street, and Natalia Zuckerman! Also, a funny, positive Takoma Voice review of the album by Carolyn Feola de Rugumas has been discovered!
